Inpatient & Outpatient Rehab Programmes
Depending on your financial and social situation, and your medical history, it may be decided you should be an inpatient or outpatient.
Inpatient rehab
In all cases, the best type of rehab is inpatient rehab, which is when you stay in clinic accommodation for your detox. This provides a safe environment and gives you access to round-the-clock care. You will undergo therapy at the clinic and take a break from the normalities of everyday life. This is what most people imagine when they think of rehab, and it is by far the most successful type of rehab.
As part of your inpatient rehab experience, you might take part in:
- Daily walks and excursions
- Life coaching
- Mindfulness training
- Group therapy sessions
- Activities like archery, horse riding and sailing.
Outpatient rehab
Outpatient rehab does things a little differently. With this, you undergo a home detox. This means you will stay at home and be cared for by a loved one. You will receive periodic visits from a nurse and be prescribed withdrawal medication, but your access to support will be lesser and the risk of relapse higher. Because of this, we always recommend inpatient rehab first.
As an outpatient, you won’t take part in any of the fun activities listed above, but you will still undergo a medically-managed detox.
Inpatient and outpatient rehab programmes are available with our clinics. We can provide personalised advice about these types of programme if you call us on 0800 118 2892. Advice is 100% free and confidential.
What Does Rehab Involve?
When you enter into rehab, you do so to undergo a detox in a safe environment.
Detoxing is what most people think of as the first stage of rehab, but the first stage for the clinic is understanding the patient. This is achieved with a clinical assessment.
You will attend a clinical assessment after choosing your rehab clinic in Canterbury. The assessment will take place at the clinic or a private hospital and be conducted by a therapist, a doctor and a nurse. The results of your assessment, and your personal circumstances, will be used to create a personalised rehabilitation programme.
As part of rehab in Canterbury, you will:
- Undergo a medically-managed detox
- Be prescribed withdrawal medications
- Receive therapy and counselling sessions
- Practice therapies like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Take part in additional activities, such as holistic therapies like massage and fun activities like sailing, archery and bowling.
Detox
After being admitted into rehab, you will begin your detox which will take anywhere from two weeks to a month to complete. You will be looked after and supported by our medical and clinical team of therapists, psychiatrists, physicians and nurses. Detoxing is the hardest stage of rehab, but you won’t go through it alone.
Therapy
During and after your detox, you will attend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) sessions to help treat the social and behavioural sides of addiction. You may also receive additional therapies, like Neuro-linguistic Programming, psychodrama sessions and SMART Recovery Assignments.
Medication
The rehabilitation process doesn’t end when you leave your clinic. You will continue with your treatment for several months. It is also likely you will stay on withdrawal medication for several months after leaving the clinic. You will be slowly weaned off your medication to help you adjust to life without intoxication.
Ongoing help
Residential care is the starting point for drug and alcohol recovery. To stay drug or alcohol free for good, you will need ongoing help and support. All our patients receive one years’ free aftercare with access to mentors, sponsorship and catch up sessions. This will help you adjust to life without any alcohol or drugs.
If you are ready to start your rehabilitation in Canterbury, or you have a loved one who is ready to get help, a call to the Serenity helpline on 0800 118 2892 is all it takes to explore your options.
