Inpatient & outpatient rehab in Oxford
There are two main types of rehabilitation: inpatient and outpatient rehab. The best type of rehab for you depends on your medical, financial, and social situation.
Inpatient rehab
As an inpatient with one of our Oxford rehab clinics, you will stay in residential accommodation with us and have your meals cooked, your clothes washed and ironed, and your daily itinerary handled for you. You will be free to focus on your detox away from your normal, everyday life. Rehab will feel like a break.
You will undergo a medically-managed detox and be cared for by our BACP accredited nurses. You will also have access to therapies at the clinic and have the opportunity to enjoy social activities with other patients.
Outpatient rehab
As an outpatient with one of our clinics, you will undergo a home detox. This type of rehab is cheaper because you are not put up in accommodation at the clinic. However, you will receive less support and your alcohol detox in will take place in a less secure environment.
We recommend inpatient rehab at our rehab clinics in all cases, because in our experience, addicts need to be taken out of their normal social setting to achieve meaningful results. However, this may not be an option for you, which is why we can also offer rehab as an outpatient if inpatient rehab is unaffordable.
If you are unsure which type of rehab is best for you, or to find out more, you can get advice by speaking with one of our helpful advisors – call us on 0800 118 2892.
How does rehab work?
There are four main stages of rehab:
- Treatment initiation
- Early abstinence
- Maintaining abstinence
- Advanced recovery
Your Oxford rehab clinic will create a personalised rehab programme and put in place a support network to manage these four stages of rehab.
Your rehab experience will follow the four stages outlined, although it will differ from anyone else’s. This is because all patients are unique and must receive personalised support to beat addiction and stay drug or alcohol free.
As part of your Oxford rehab, you will:
- Be prescribed withdrawal medications
- Go through a detox
- Receive care and support during your detox
- Attend therapy sessions to change your behaviour
- Have regular check-ups with a doctor to monitor your progress
Detox
The most daunting aspect of rehab is the detox stage, when you abstain from the substances you are addicted to. The purpose of this stage is to cleanse the body. It ends when all traces of the illicit substances have left the body. After this, withdrawal symptoms tend to ease and become much more manageable.
Therapy
You will be introduced to therapy during the detox staged because this is the best time to treat the social and behavioural sides of addiction.
A common therapy used is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Another is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Your therapies will form part of your rehabilitation programme, which will be personalised to your specific case.
Ongoing support
Staying drug or alcohol free is easier to achieve with ongoing support. Ongoing support, such as therapy, counselling, and workshops, form an important part of staying clean and leading a happy life. We will put in place a support network to help you stay clean long into the future, so you can build a new life for yourself.
