Why Choose Rehab in Cardiff?
Cardiff is the capital of Wales and Wales’ biggest city. It is a cultural hub, attracting people from across the UK with its high standard of living and coastal location.
If you need help for addiction and you live in or near Cardiff, you’ll find some of the best rehab centres in the world here. Our rehab centres in Cardiff have a reputation for innovative and evidence-based treatments. Whether you need treatment for alcohol, drugs, or both, we have the experience to help you.
Outpatient and Inpatient Programmes
You can undergo a recovery programme as an inpatient or outpatient. Which is best for you depends on a variety of factors such as the severity of your addiction and your financial situation.
Inpatient rehab
Inpatient rehab is most suitable for alcohol addiction and treatment for hard drugs. As an inpatient, you will stay in residential accommodation and your detox will be monitored by our BACP accredited nurses. This type of rehab has the highest success rate and the lowest risk of relapse during detox.
Outpatient rehab
Outpatient rehab can be suitable for mild alcohol addictions and legal highs. As an outpatient, you will undergo a home detox and check in with us every few days. Outpatients tend to have less complex problems, so you may or may not need therapy as an outpatient (although this depends on your case).
Which is right for me?
If you have a double diagnosis, complex mental health problems or are deemed to be at a high risk of relapse, inpatient rehab is best.
For a prescription drug detox or mild addictions, outpatient rehab could work. To find out which type of rehab is best for you, you can get advice by speaking with one of our helpful advisors – call us on 0800 118 2892.

What does rehab involve?
Your rehab programme will include a medicated detox to cleanse your body and comprehensive therapy to address the behaviours and habits that lead you to alcohol or drugs. You will also get help for any associated mental health problems like depression, OCD and PTSD which can act as triggers.
As part of your rehab programme, you will:
- Take part in a medicated detox
- Stay in clinic accommodation (inpatient)
- Stay at home (outpatient)
- Undergo behavioural therapy
- Receive treatment for your mental health
Detoxing
Detoxing involves abstaining from the substances you are addicted to with the help of withdrawal medication. The effect is that as your detox progresses, your body will start to crave alcohol less and less.
In time, your cravings will be brought under complete control and you will be able to manage your addiction to achieve long-term abstinence. You will stay in clinical care for 3-4 weeks before graduating to be an outpatient.
After graduating from clinical care, you will have control over your addiction with medication and your mind will have begun dissociating itself from alcohol. This takes time, so remember – recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.
Therapy
Therapy aims to resolve the bad habits and behaviours that foster and fuel your addiction. Over time, you will have developed habit-forming behaviours that lead you to alcohol and drugs. Your rehab in Cardiff will get to the bottom of these issues so you progress in your recovery in a safe, manageable way.
You will start therapy during your detox and it is likely you will take part in behavioural therapies like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). You may also benefit from guided self-help and talking therapies.
Ongoing help and support
We provide one years’ free aftercare at all our Cardiff rehab clinics and will put in place a support network that you can always access.
Addiction is a complex issue that requires more than detoxification to beat. People who suffer from alcoholism and drug addiction are creatures of habit. Breaking the cycle and losing the lure of drinking or doing drugs takes time, and it also requires a rethink of how we approach treatment for different people.
