Inpatient & Outpatient Rehab in Glasgow
There are two types of drug rehabilitation in Glasgow: inpatient rehab and outpatient rehab.
As their names suggest, inpatient rehab is when you stay in clinic accommodation while outpatient rehab is when you stay at home.
Which type of rehab is best for you depends on the type of addiction you have, the extent of your addiction, and what (if any) pre-existing medical conditions you have. For example, these conditions may sway you towards being an inpatient:
- PTSD
- Anxiety
- Bulimia
- Anorexia
- Depression
- Bipolar
- Schizophrenia
- A history of self harm
Those who are assessed to have a high risk of relapse should undergo inpatient rehab. This will ensure they receive the care, help and support they need from support workers and healthcare professionals. With drugs like heroin, cocaine, MDMA and fentanyl, where withdrawal symptoms are particularly nasty, inpatient rehab is always recommended so the patient has a safe and private environment.
Outpatient rehab is also an option where the risk of relapse is low or moderate. With outpatient rehab, the patient undergoes a home detox if a doctor advises it to be safe. Sometimes, outpatient rehab works, but it does have a lower success rate than inpatient rehab. This is because the person has easier access to alcohol or drugs, so the chance of relapse is higher.
If you want to find out more about the different types of rehab clinic in Glasgow, call us for free on 0800 118 2892 and our advisors will answer your questions.
What Does Rehab Involve?
Rehab is based on proven treatment models which differ according to the substance in question. No two patients are the same, so rehab starts with a clinical assessment of your condition. This will be at the clinic with an admissions coordinator, a therapist and a nurse.
During your assessment, you will have a golden opportunity to get your questions answered and find out more about the clinic and treatments provided. This will go some way to alleviating your concerns and making you feel comfortable.
Following your clinical assessment, a rehab programme will be created for your alcohol or drug treatment. This will be the starting point for your journey, and it’ll be completely unique to you.
Once you are admitted to the clinic, the first stage of rehab begins: the detox. The detox stage of rehab is the hardest. It is the first stage to ‘kicking the habit’. You will abstain from the substance you are addicted to until all traces of the substance have left your body. To ease your withdrawal symptoms, you may be prescribed medication which you’ll be weaned off until you are completely drug independent.
It’s important to note that if you choose to undergo outpatient rehab, you will receive a high standard of care, but it won’t be as great as inpatient rehab. Your access to healthcare workers will be lesser even though you will still undergo a detox.
During and after the detox stage, you will attend therapy sessions and counselling to help you cope with your withdrawal symptoms and change your mindset towards alcohol and drugs. It is likely you will attend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) sessions. CBT is a well-regarded therapy for helping with addiction.
With alcohol and drug rehab in Glasgow at our clinics, you will:
- Undergo a physical and psychological assessment
Perform a substance detox - Be prescribed withdrawal medications to ease your symptoms
- Receive therapy and counselling to help ease your mind
- Be supported by fully qualified and experienced healthcare experts
